ALISO VIEJO, Calif. — McCarthy Building Companies, Inc. is constructing a new $11.5-million design-build parking structure at Soka University in Aliso Viejo, Calif.   Being built on an existing parking lot between the main entrance and the tennis courts on the Soka University campus, the 214,983-square-foot structure will provide 677 parking spaces for the school when complete in winter 2013. McCarthy has partnered with Choate Parking Consultants of Irvine on the design and construction of the post-tensioned, cast-in-place concrete parking structure. Associated Builders and Contractors Releases Latest Construction Spending Data

COCONUT CREEK, Fla. — Nonresidential construction spending continues to slide, falling 0.7 percent in April, and spending in April stood at $558.33 billion on a seasonally adjusted annualized basis, but is up 7.1 percent from April 2011, according to Associated Builders and Contractors. “Ten of the nation's 16 nonresidential construction segments experienced declines in April, including manufacturing and power, which had been the leading drivers of spending growth,” said Anirban Basu, ABC chief economist.
