CORNING, N.Y. — State and community leaders assembled recently to break ground on the future site of Guthrie Corning Hospital. With construction managed by a joint venture of Gilbane Building Co. and Welliver, the modern facility will feature 65 private rooms designed for patient comfort, privacy and safety. Construction spending inched up in March 2012 to an annualized rate of $808 billion, up 0.1 percent compared to the previous month and is now 6 percent above year ago levels, according to a new analysis of federal data released by the Associated General Contractors of America. ENCINITAS, Calif. — Expansion plans at Scripps Memorial Hospital Encinitas took a major step forward with a groundbreaking of a Critical Care Building, which will more than double the size of the hospital’s current emergency department and increase the number of medical-surgical beds by 43 percent.
