U.S. construction equipment exports increased 43 percent in 2011 compared to the previous year for a total $23.5 billion of machinery shipped to other nations, according to the Association of Equipment Manufacturers. Architecture Billings Index Remains Positive for Third Straight Month
WASHINGTON, D.C. — On the heels of consecutive months of strengthening business conditions, the Architecture Billings Index has reached positive territory three months in a row. As a leading economic indicator of construction activity, the ABI reflects the approximate nine to 12-month lag time between architecture billings and construction spending. The American Institute of Architects reported the January ABI score was 50.9, following a mark of 51.0 in December. Caterpillar expands operations in United States
PEORIA, Ill. — Caterpillar Inc. announced it has selected land near Athens, Ga. as the location for a new facility that will build small track-type tractors and mini hydraulic excavators. The state-of-the-art, 1-million-square-foot-facility is expected to directly employ 1,400 people once it is fully operational. The total investment for opening the new facility will be about $200 million.
