Modest Growth Projected for 2012 in Nonresidential Construction Spending
WASHINGTON, D.C. — A multitude of factors are preventing a recovery for the beleaguered design and construction industry. Lenders that have been extremely reticent to finance construction projects, budget shortfalls at all levels of government, the ripple effect of overbuilding and rising costs of key construction commodities are all contributing to what projects to be a decline of 5.6% in spending this year for nonresidential construction projects. Big-D Projects Win AIA Utah Design Awards
SALT LAKE CITY, Utah — Two Big-D Construction projects were recently awarded 2010 AIA Utah Design Awards: The Center for Advanced Energy Studies and Tracy Aviary Visitor Education. The Tracy Aviary project was the only unbuilt project to receive an award. The Center for Advanced Energy Studies in Idaho Falls, Idaho, is a 58,000 square-foot, two-story, LEED Gold research facility.
