The nation’s failure to invest in construction workforce education and training programs is having a real, measurable impact on the country’s ability to build infrastructure and other construction projects, according to the results of a workforce survey conducted by the Associated General Contractors of America and Arcoro, an HR technology company supporting the construction industry. AGC noted that 94% of construction firms nationwide report they have open positions they are trying to fill. Dodge Construction Network: Planning Momentum Building Across Several Commercial, Institutional Segments

The Dodge Momentum Index, issued by Dodge Construction Network, increased 7.9% in July to 216.3 (2000=100) from the revised June reading of 200.5. Over the month, commercial planning increased by 6.8%, and institutional planning expanded by 11.1%. Within the commercial portion of the Index, growth was widespread across all segments. Data centers continued to play an important role in growth, and retail planning has been steadily accelerating over the past eight months. DPR Construction Builds Next Generation of Skilled Trade Workers through Inaugural Apprenticeship Classes

DPR Construction recently celebrated the first graduates of its Craft Apprenticeship Program. Of the 100 apprentices enrolled, 43 have successfully completed the rigorous drywall or concrete programs, which are certified by the National Center for Construction Education and Research and recognized in all 50 states and three U.S. territories. “Finishing the program has allowed me to step into another role that I never thought would be possible for me,” said Kelian Gonzalez Rivera, a DPR drywaller based in Orlando, Florida.
