Nonresidential Construction Employment Increases in May

The construction industry added 25,000 jobs on net in May, according to an Associated Builders and Contractors analysis of data released by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. On a year-over-year basis, industry employment has increased by 192,000 jobs, an increase of 2.5%.

Western Specialty Contractors Installs Green Roof on OSF HealthCare’s New Ministry Headquarters in Illinois

Western Specialty Contractors was part of the team that transformed a seven-story historic building in downtown Peoria, Illinois into OSF HealthCare’s new Ministry Headquarters. Western replaced the building’s old roof with a low-maintenance roof garden system designed to alleviate stormwater runoff, extend the life of the roof and add aesthetic value. Most recently owned by Caterpillar, the building along with the Peoria Professional Building and an adjacent parking lot were donated to OSF HealthCare in January 2018. Marcum Releases Q1 2023 Report

The Marcum Commercial Construction Index for the first quarter of 2023 reports that the construction industry retains momentum despite still-elevated inflation and ongoing labor shortages.  Despite that momentum, the combination of high interest rates and tightening credit conditions, along with a dour economic outlook, means that construction activity could slow in the latter part of 2023. Manufacturing-related construction continued to outpace the nonresidential segment. CONEXPO-CON/AGG Caps Mental Health Awareness Efforts with CIASP Donation

CONEXPO-CON/AGG is backing construction professionals during Mental Health Awareness Month with a $5,000 donation to the Construction Industry Alliance for Suicide Prevention. The money will be directed to its construction mental health support efforts. According to Kim MacDonald, CEO of 13 Factors for Business Growth and presenter on mental health in the construction industry at CONEXPO-CON/AGG, people need to look at the risk factors and hazards that exist in the work itself and address where possible, mitigate those risks. Logistics Property Company Breaks Ground on Oak Forest Logistics Center

Logistics Property Company has begun construction on a new logistics center in Oak Forest, Illinois. The nearly 665,000-square-foot development is located with immediate access to the I-57 four-way interchange at 167th Street, just two miles from the I-57 and I-80 interchange and three miles from I-294. Located 24 miles from downtown Chicago, the building will feature four drive-in doors, 117 exterior docks and parking for 116 trailers and more than 500 cars.
