In observance of April as National Safe Digging Month, Common Ground Alliance reminds professional excavators, landscapers, contractors and anyone else who breaks ground to contact 811 before they dig. According to CGA’s annual Damage Information Reporting Tool Report, more than half of annual reported damages (55.3%) were caused by professional contractors. Survey Says: Most Contractors Report Significant Flaws with Nation’s 811 Utility Location System
There are significant flaws with the current 811 utility location system according to a new survey of construction firms that perform any kind of underground excavation released by the Associated General Contractors of America. 2020 DIRT Report Reveals Damage Prevention Challenges Continue Amidst Global Pandemic
Common Ground Alliance has released the findings from its 2020 Damage Information Reporting Tool Report. The report analyzed all 2020 data submitted voluntarily by facility operators, utility locating companies, one call centers, contractors, regulators and others from the U.S. and Canada using an in-depth statistical modeling process. The results of this analysis found that an estimated 468,000 excavation-related damages to underground facilities occurred in the U.S. in 2020.
