The Decorative Concrete Council announced the winners of its 14th annual Decorative Concrete International Awards competition. The winners were recognized at ASCC’s Annual Conference, September 29, in Cleveland, Ohio. Colorado Hardscapes won the WOW! Award, best overall project, for the USAFA Air Gardens, a restoration project to return the Air Force Academy’s Air Gardens, what had been the focal point of the cadet parade grounds, to its former glory. The area is a 600-foot grid of concrete, landscaping and pools. American Society of Concrete Contractors Publishes 46th Position Statement
The American Society of Concrete Contractors published its 46th Position Statement, “Water-Cementitious Material Ratio for Concrete to Receive a Trowel Finish.” ASCC position statements clarify the concrete contractors’ point of view for architects, engineers, owners and others. Position statement 46 explains that the ACI 318-19 Building Code requires a maximum water-cementitious material ratio (w/cm) in accordance with the severity of the anticipated exposure of members, and varies from N/A to 0.55, 0.50, 0.45 and 0.40. American Society of Concrete Contractors Publishes 45th Position Statement
The American Society of Concrete Contractors published its 45th position statement, “Managing Concrete Projects: Concrete/Steel Price and Delivery Volatility Risks.” ASCC position statements clarify the concrete contractors’ point of view for architects, engineers, owners and others. Position statement 45 explains that the recent unpredictable market fluctuation and supply shortages for materials are beyond the contractor’s control, making it difficult to maintain the costs and schedules anticipated at bid time. The position statement calls for early involvement in project design for the concrete contractor and its suppliers to best manage the material supply chain. American Society of Concrete Contractors Publish Two New Safety Bulletins
Two safety bulletins have been published: Emergency Rescue Baskets and Concrete Burns. Safety bulletins are brief discussions of the most severe safety issues facing concrete contractors and are published periodically. American Society of Concrete Contractors members receive a complete set of bulletins when they join the organization. They are available for sale to non-members. The Safety and Risk Management Council is a specialty council of the ASCC, dedicated to making its contractors the safest in the industry.
