Construction employment increased in 39 states in August from a year earlier, while 27 states and the District of Columbia added construction jobs between July and August, according to a new analysis of federal employment data released by the Associated General Contractors of America. Association officials said that tight labor market conditions are making it hard for firms to find enough workers to hire. Between August 2023 and August 2024, 39 states added construction jobs, 10 states and D.C. shed jobs, and employment was unchanged in Georgia. Texas added the most construction employees (36,600 jobs), followed by Florida (36,200 jobs), […]
AGC: Construction Firms Add 25,000 Jobs In July, Unemployment Rate Holds Steady
The construction sector added 25,000 jobs in July as wage gains continued to outpace increases in the broader economy, according to an analysis of new government data the Associated General Contractors of America released. Association officials said the biggest challenge for the industry remains finding enough workers to keep pace with demand and urged public officials to boost support for construction education and training programs. Construction employment in July totaled 8.3 million, seasonally adjusted, an increase of 25,000 from June. The sector has added 239,000 jobs or 3% during the past 12 months, nearly double the 1.6% increase for total […]
Construction Sector Adds 9,000 Jobs in April
The construction industry added 9,000 jobs in April — the fewest since August 2022 — as a downturn among residential remodelers and subcontractors undercut job gains at nonresidential construction firms, according to an analysis of new government data released by the Associated General Contractors of America. Association officials noted that demand for workers remains high among nonresidential firms, and they urged government officials to enhance support for career development and more employment-based immigration. “It appears that high interest rates are dragging down remodeling, homebuilding and apartment construction,” said Ken Simonson, the association’s chief economist. “But firms working on infrastructure, data […]
Construction Employment Rises by 11,000 Jobs in September, Labor Conditions Remain Tight
The construction industry added 11,000 jobs in September as unemployment rates for the sector remained at historically low levels, prompting contractors to raise pay faster than for other jobs, according to an analysis of new government data released by the Associated General Contractors of America. Association officials noted that the number of people working on nonresidential construction projects declined for the month as firms struggle to find enough workers to hire amid tight labor conditions. “Construction firms have plenty of projects but a dip in nonresidential employment last month shows how hard it has been to find enough skilled workers,” […]
