McCarthy Building Companies Inc.’s Water Services team has been selected as the construction manager at-risk for the $215-million expansion of the Sioux Falls Regional Water Reclamation Plant in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. The first major expansion since the plant was built in the 1980s, it is expected to increase the facility’s capacity by 50% — from 21 to 30 million gallons per day — and enhance operational efficiencies to meet growing demand throughout the community and region. McCarthy Building Companies recently hosted its annual Construction 101 event in its Newport Beach, California office. A total of 33 students participated. Construction 101 Day provided a supportive, hands-on learning experience with introduction to a construction career for high school girls ages 14-18. Participants learned the basic elements of various construction trades and developed a safety mindset, as well as self-confidence that can apply in many aspects. McCarthy Forms New Southern Region Civil Business Unit
McCarthy has formed a civil business unit for the company’s Southern region. Jeromy Shaw, senior vice president of operations, leads the civil business unit, focusing on clients in transportation, rail, aviation, renewables, water and commercial markets. Shaw joined McCarthy in 2012 and has over 20 years of experience in the industry. In his previous role, Shaw was responsible for the oversight of the Dallas preconstruction team, leading preconstruction efforts for projects in key market sectors including roads and bridges, water and wastewater, renewable energy and marine market sectors.

HOK and McCarthy have been selected by UCLA Health to transform the former Olympia Medical Center in the Mid-Wilshire area of Los Angeles, California into a neuropsychiatric hospital. The renovation will transform four hospital buildings into a unified care facility for patients experiencing mental and behavioral health challenges.
