Construction Employment in December Trails Pre-Pandemic Levels in 34 States

Construction employment in December remained below pre-pandemic levels in two-thirds of the states even though 37 states and the District of Columbia added construction jobs from November to December, according to an analysis by the Associated General Contractors of America of government employment data. The Associated General Contractors of America’s CEO Stephen E. Sandherr issued the following statement in reaction to the release of compromise coronavirus relief legislation slated for House and Senate votes as early as Dec. 21:   “The new coronavirus recovery measure announced today should provide some needed relief for a construction industry that is coping with project cancellations and job losses in most parts of the country. New Association Survey Finds Mix of Layoffs, Hiring Pickup in May

Construction employment declined in the District of Columbia and every state except South Dakota in April, an analysis by the Associated General Contractors of America of new government data shows.
