American Concrete Pavement Association Announces 2022 Lifetime Achievement and Distinguished Service Awards

The American Concrete Pavement Association announced the winners of several industry awards, presented alongside the Excellence in Concrete Pavement Awards, at its annual meeting held Nov. 29-Dec. 1 in Nashville, Tennessee. Following are details for the four awards: Hartmann-Hirschman-Egan Award First presented in 1968, this award was originally named in honor of Harold W. Hartmann, the association’s secretary-treasurer from 1964 until 1974. In 1987, Robert E. Hirschman’s name was added in recognition of his term as the association’s chairman (then president) in 1967, as well as his tenure as secretary-treasurer from 1975 to 1987. PCA Releases Spring 2021 Cement Consumption and Construction Activity Outlook

Portland Cement Association Market Intelligence Group’s Senior Vice President and Chief Economist Ed Sullivan recently presented its annual Spring cement consumption forecast, predicting an increase in cement consumption for 2021 and 2022. “Remarkably, U.S. cement consumption recorded 2% growth during 2020. It is remarkable because COVID-19 exerted a terrible toll on the economy. Consumers bunkered down; states enacted rigid lockdowns. Real GDP declined to a rate not matched since 1946 as the economy transitioned from war time to peace time,” said Sullivan. “Nearly 9.5 million fewer jobs now exist compared to pre-COVID-19 levels. PCA Earns 2020 Energy Star Partner of The Year Award

The Portland Cement Association, representing America’s cement manufacturers, has received the 2020 Energy Star Partner of the Year Award for its outstanding collaboration with the Energy Star program and promotion of Energy Star tools. “PCA and its members have greatly benefited from participation in the Energy Star program to significantly improve energy efficiency and reduce associated greenhouse gas emissions,” said PCA President and CEO Michael Ireland. “According to Energy Star data, annually, cement plants have total source energy savings of 60.5 trillion Btu and reduced 1.5 million metric tons of energy-related carbon emissions.” The Energy Star Partner of the Year … Read more
