Gilbane Building Company Selected to Provide Construction Management Services for New Albany Capital Center

ALBANY, N.Y. — Gilbane Building Company has been selected by The Albany Convention Center Authority to provide construction management services for the new Albany Capital Center. The $66.5-million, 82,000-square-foot meeting and conference facility, which was approved by Governor Andrew Cuomo late last year, will be built in downtown Albany to fulfill the demand for additional assembly, exhibit and ballroom space in New York State's capitol.

The first floor of the Albany Capital Center will consist of a 6,300-square-foot pre-function space, 25,000-square-foot multi-purpose room, as well as administrative and storage spaces. The second floor will feature a 9,700-square-foot pre-function room, 9,000 square feet of meeting rooms, a 10,000-square-foot junior ballroom and a 3,500-square-foot kitchen.

The project will also include an enclosed pedestrian walkway that will serve as a link connecting the center, the Empire State Plaza and the Times Union Center, creating the area’s largest indoor venue.

“We recognize the positive impact this construction project will have in the region and are excited to work with the Albany Convention Center Authority to bring this facility to downtown Albany,” said John LaRow, Gilbane vice president. “This project will bring good construction-related jobs to the capitol and, when it's completed, the new facility will help boost our local economy.”

Construction activities begin in June of 2014 with completion in the summer of 2016.
