SAN DIEGO, Calif. – Rudolph and Sletten, Inc. was recently awarded the inaugural “Downtown on the Rise” Alonzo Award for building the new San Diego Central Courthouse, located in San Diego, California. The Annual Alonzo Awards, presented by the Downtown San Diego Partnership, honor the people, places and projects that have made significant contributions to the advancement of Downtown San Diego. Receiving this prestigious award signifies that the new San Diego Central Courthouse is a notable presence in San Diego’s skyline, and a cornerstone of the American process that will have a significant impact on so many lives.
This year’s Alonzo Award judges noted that the 25-story San Diego Central Courthouse takes a fresh approach to the traditional model for institutional buildings, calling it “a vertical masterpiece.” The $555-million, 704,000-square-foot facility at the corner of Union and C Streets offers a full-service facility for criminal, civil, probate, family and small claims matters, with space for court administration, security and holding areas. The development, designed by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill LLP, is intended to meet the U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED Silver standards.
The project team included TEG Architects, Layton Construction, CMTA Engineers and TRC Worldwide Engineering.
