ALACHUA, Fla. — NCCER recognizes William Fuller, of La Porte, Texas, as the 2018 Associated Builders and Contractors Craft Instructor of the Year. NCCER presented Fuller with the prestigious award and a $10,000 cash prize from NCCER and the Trimmer Construction Education Foundation at ABC’s Workforce Development Conference last month. The Craft Instructor of the Year award is presented each year to an instructor who possesses outstanding creativity, exceptional communication skills, a positive attitude and an unparalleled passion for teaching. The award recipient works diligently to promote lifelong learning and represents NCCER and ABC’s unwavering commitment to training America’s skilled craft workforce.
Fuller was selected from among five finalists as the instructor who best embodies merit shop ideals through superior effort and talent in his role as manager of safety and technical training at ABC Greater Houston Chapter’s Construction and Maintenance Foundation. He teaches multiple crafts utilizing the NCCER curriculum, including carpentry, scaffolding, rigging, crane, heavy equipment, crew leadership, boilermaking and CSST, bringing enthusiasm and passion to the classroom.
With over 35 years of craft field experience and 15 years of safety, health and environmental support systems, Fuller is able to share first-hand knowledge and experience with his students. Beginning as a craft instructor in 2002, Fuller is affectionately known as “Uncle Will” and keeps his students engaged and eager to come back to class each day. With his classes staying in high demand, it shows that Fuller enjoys inspiring young adults as they are learning their craft.
“William not only teaches but is also a mentor to other instructors and helps them reach their full potential in the classroom,” said Blair Williamson, director of training and development of ABC Greater Houston Chapter’s Construction and Maintenance Education Foundation. “He goes above and beyond in each course to ensure that all of his students spend just as much time in the lab putting into action what they are taught in his lectures.”
This year’s Craft Instructor of the Year award finalists include Jason Ashlaw of Demco New York Corporation, David Clements of Red D Plumbing, Roosevelt Norwood of Zachry Industrial and Eugene Senter of Facility Solutions Group. All four finalists were awarded $1,000 each and received complimentary round-trip travel and hotel accommodations to the ABC conference and awards presentation.
