Ground Broken for Columbus Crew MLS Stadium

Ground was recently broken for the new downtown Columbus Crew Major League Soccer Stadium, located in Ohio and set to open in July 2021. Turner Construction Company and joint venture partner Smoot Construction Company are providing the Design-Build services for the 460,000-square-foot facility, which will serve as the home to the Columbus Crew Soccer Club.

With the new owners, project team members and a number of city officials on stage at the groundbreaking ceremony, as well as nearly 4,300 Black & Gold fans in attendance, the festivities were held at the stadium’s new location, which will move the team from the outskirts of Columbus, located in the heart of the city’s Arena District.

The stadium is expected to be a 20,000-seat venue on a 33-acre site. Beyond the stadium, the project will complete the Arena District with a riverfront park and mixed-use development. Premium amenities include 30 luxury suites and 30 loge boxes. Also included is a large event plaza with a large LED screen for outdoor gatherings, concerts and festivals.
