Ground Broken for International African American Museum

More than 700 people joined the Turner Construction Company team in the Carolinas to celebrate the groundbreaking of the International African American Museum in downtown Charleston, South Carolina. This iconic building is situated at Gadsden’s Wharf, a 2.38- acre historic landmark that tells the story of a journey that began more than 300 years ago when enslaved Africans were taken from West Africa to North America.

This 46,500-square-foot museum will house a variety of exhibits and art displays that illuminate the voyage of enslaved African Americans, their suffering and their overall contribution to the greatness of America. The museum will also feature a Center for Family History that will enable visitors to trace their genealogy.

Turner Construction is working on the project with associate partner Brownstone Construction Group, a minority-owned, South Carolina-based firm and consultant, McKissack & McKissack. The project is scheduled for completion in 2021.
