NCCER, BYF Announce Sixth Annual I Built This! Construction Video Contest

The sixth annual I BUILT THIS! video contest, presented by NCCER and Build Your Future, is returning this October. Designed to promote the value of craft skills and construction as an industry of choice, the contest encourages secondary and post-secondary students and trainees to showcase their building projects.

For the first time ever, the 2020 I BUILT THIS! video contest has a special theme: Construction is Everywhere!

This year has brought some unique circumstances into the lives of students, trainees and instructors. But while education and training may look and feel different, construction remains critical to our future.

Students are invited to share the projects they built at home or another safe environment during 2020. From a birdhouse to a shed to a bathroom remodel, students are encouraged to show how they can put their craftsmanship into practice anywhere.

In keeping with social distancing recommendations, there are no “Group” categories in the 2020 contest. This year’s categories include secondary, post-secondary and People’s Choice. First place and runner-up winners will be selected from both the secondary and post-secondary categories, while the People’s Choice winner will be determined by popular vote.

Craft instructors are invited to incorporate the contest into their curricula as an opportunity for students and trainees to show off their skills and gain attention for their craft programs. Instructors may also submit projects on behalf of a program or individual student.

Last year’s winners include a variety of programs: Carroll County Career and Technology Center; Southern Air Apprenticeship Program; Associated Builders and Contractors Southern California and Milby High School.
