CSCEC recently held a “witness happiness” cloud open day event at the new Phnom Penh Airport in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. Covering an area of 2,600 hectares, the airport, when completed, will be a 4F-class airport, the highest-class airport in the world.
The new Phnom Penh Airport will be able to accommodate the takeoff and landing of the Airbus A380 (with a takeoff weight of up to 560 tons), the world’s largest wide-body passenger aircraft. As the 2023 Southeast Asian Games will be held in Cambodia, the airport will serve as the national gateway of Cambodia to receive tourists from all over the globe.
China Construction Third Engineering Bureau Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of CSCEC, is responsible for the project schedule management as the contractor. It is also responsible for the construction of the passenger terminal building with a construction area of 160,000 square meters, the north airside concourse with a construction area of 50,000 square meters and the energy center building of 7,000 square meters. In addition, the contractor will be in charge of construction management for the airport’s external works including viaducts, parking lots, roads, landscape engineering, pile foundation, glass supply, supply and installation of elevators and escalators, as well as the baggage handling system.
The project officially started at the beginning of 2020. At present, the pile foundation test and the pile head removal are essentially completed and enter the stage of foundation construction.
