A grand opening ceremony was recently held for the new West Gates at Tom Bradley International Terminal at Los Angeles International Airport, California. Joint-venture team Turner Construction Company and PCL Construction served as the contractors on the project.
The completion of the terminal represents a major milestone for the city of Los Angeles and the entire region, serving as a gateway and a point of connection for members of the community. After more than a year of unprecedented challenges, the opening of the terminal signals that Los Angeles is prepared to welcome visitors and is open for business.
The modern terminal includes the latest technology, a checked-bag storage system, biometric boarding gates and the latest amenities for travelers visiting, living and working in the region, including two nursing rooms, a service animal relief area, art exhibitions, a quiet room and three children’s play areas. Sustainable and efficient features can be found throughout the terminal that will conserve energy and water use.
In addition to the completion of the five-level, 15-gate, 750,000-square-foot terminal, the team completed more than 1.5 million square feet of new aircraft apron and taxiways/taxilanes, as well as new underground utility improvements.
