Gilbane Building Company has been selected by Alexandria City Public Schools to provide construction management at-risk services for the new Alexandria City High School at Minnie Howard, located in Virginia, which will accommodate approximately 1,600 students. This project aims to shape ACPS into a better, more equitable and richer learning environment for thousands of young people.
Designed by Perkins Eastman as an innovative and energy-efficient learning environment, the new school, for students in grades 9 through 12, will feature five levels arranged like a pinwheel. The pinwheel concept organizes learning neighborhoods and athletic facilities around the heart of the school. The existing school will remain operational while the new building is constructed on the site of the Minnie Howard Campus.
A key component of Gilbane’s selection was the company’s local net-zero experience to include Falls Church City Public Schools’ Meridian High School, Arlington Public Schools’ Cardinal Elementary School and D.C. Public Schools’ West Elementary School.
The new Alexandria City High School at Minnie Howard is slated for completion by the end of 2024.
