The National Institute of Building Sciences board of directors announced that The Honorable Stephen T. Ayers, FAIA, NAC, CCM, LEED AP, the 11th Architect of the Capitol and president of The Ayers Group, LLC, has accepted the position of interim CEO of NIBS. Ayers’ appointment follows the departure of CEO Lakisha A. Woods, CAE. Ayers previously served as chair of the NIBS board from 2017 to 2018. Reno Cyclery Project Facilitates City Growth

The Reno Cyclery construction project in Nevada was recently awarded to general contractor SR Construction, Inc. for Phase I of the 9,793-square-foot building. It will be a full-service bike shop intended to provide bike sales, repairs, maintenance services, as well as provide bike tours. Skanska Signs Contract to Build Apartments in Helsinki, Finland

Skanska has signed a contract with the City of Helsinki to build new apartments in Helsinki, Finland. The contract is worth EUR 34M, about SEK 350M, to be included in the Nordic order bookings for the fourth quarter 2020. The project encompasses three apartment buildings totaling 170 subsidized apartments in Jätkäsaari district in Helsinki. The buildings will represent the highest energy-efficiency class and include rooftop solar panels that will help generate some of the electricity used by the property. Higher Education Project Delivers Leading-Edge Research Space

Construction is complete on University of California, Santa Barbara’s Jeff and Judy Henley Hall, which houses the university’s Institute for Energy Efficiency. The project team included general contractor Sundt Construction, Inc. and architect KieranTimberlake. The 49,908-square-foot, three-story facility includes a 128-seat lecture hall, 18 laboratories, 26 offices, conference rooms and group office spaces that accommodate 174 graduate students.
