HUD Unveils New Report to Overcome Barriers to Offsite Construction

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, in partnership with the National Institute of Building Sciences and MOD X, has released the Offsite Construction for Housing: Research Roadmap, a strategic report that presents the key knowledge gaps and research needs to overcome the barriers and challenges to offsite construction. Offsite construction has the potential to deliver more affordable and accessible single and multifamily housing at scale. However, offsite construction for housing in the U.S. faces several challenges to increase uptake and adoption. National Institute of Building Sciences Appoints Stephen T. Ayers Interim CEO

The National Institute of Building Sciences board of directors announced that The Honorable Stephen T. Ayers, FAIA, NAC, CCM, LEED AP, the 11th Architect of the Capitol and president of The Ayers Group, LLC, has accepted the position of interim CEO of NIBS. Ayers’ appointment follows the departure of CEO Lakisha A. Woods, CAE. Ayers previously served as chair of the NIBS board from 2017 to 2018. UK, U.S. Collaborate to Improve the Built Environment

A memorandum of understanding has been announced between representatives for the United Kingdom and the USA, cementing a pledge to work together on the development of the U.S. National Building Information Management Program. Marking the next step in a two-year collaboration, the MoU will see the National Institute of Building Sciences work with experts from the UK’s Centre for Digital Built Britain on the development of a National BIM Program for the U.S., supporting international alignment on technical standards for the built environment. NIBS Names BIM Program Steering Committee Members

The National Institute of Building Sciences has announced the built environment leaders who will serve on the National BIM Program Steering Committee. The NIBS BIM Council began the launch phase for the U.S. National BIM Program in March, when Salla Eckhardt, director of transformation services with Microsoft, was named chair of the National BIM Program Steering Committee. President and CEO Lakisha A. Woods, CAE, has been re-elected to a three-year term with the U.S. Green Building Council board of directors. Woods will serve as vice chair.
