Gilbane Building Company has completed the renovation and expansion of the new Grand Avenue Neighborhood Center for the City of Orlando, Florida. Gilbane partnered with Borrelli + Partners and JCB Construction to provide Design-Build services to expand and renovate an existing 1926 Mediterranean revival architecture building that originally served the community as a school. In 1995, the building was designated as a historic landmark.
The facility has been repurposed as a neighborhood community center and houses the services provided by the city’s downtown recreation complex.The project includes 22,500 square feet of historic building renovations and 34,600 square feet of new construction with an addition of a 672-seat gymnasium, art studio, pottery studio, learning spaces, and renovated auditorium space with a 156-seat capacity, kitchen/cafeteria, and offices as well as playgrounds and other outdoor amenities.
