The structural steel topping out of the new airport administration building at the San Diego International Airport (California) was recently celebrated with a ceremony, including the signing of the final steel beam, as well as a barbeque. Sundt Construction is serving as the general contractor on the project.
The new SDIA is a replacement to the San Diego Airport Authority’s existing administration building, which is located in an area that conflicts with proposed terminal and roadway improvements that cannot be completed until the administration building has been relocated.
The Design-Build project consists of the construction of a new 130,000-square-foot building and the relocation of features from the existing administration building. With the structural topping off, the project is about one year away from completion.
