A £1.4-million public realm project, which has re-vamped Church Square in London, England’s Scunthorpe Town Centre, was recently delivered by Esh Construction.
Working on behalf of North Lincolnshire Council, the scheme formed the second phase of the Scunthorpe Urban Park development, supported by the Government’s Towns Fund initiative.
The new park and gardens have been created to drive footfall to the town, and feature ultra-modern stonework, weathered steel and a dramatic green makeover. Scoutmoor Yorkstone paving totally 1,400 square meters, as well as new lighting and plush lawns, have replaced the former paved area alongside an array of new trees, plants and shrubs, all of which will surround a brand-new statement water feature – providing the perfect place to relax while visiting the town.
The park was officially opened by Scunthorpe MP Holly Mumby-Croft with representatives from the Towns Fund Board in attendance, and an application has also been made to the government to rename the park in memory of the late Queen Elizabeth II.
Esh Construction was appointed to deliver the scheme via the YORhub framework, working in partnership with AHR, Alan Wood & Partners, Ramboll, YPP Groundworks & Civils Limited, The Fountain Company, Bouygues E&S Infrastructure, Gardham Wold Landscaping and Copeland Fencing.
As part of the project, Esh donated £1,500 to CreatorSpace, an initiative that delivers creative activities relating to science, technology, engineering, art & math within Scunthorpe Central Library and other venues.
