The New South Wales Government has allocated $216 million to transform one of Australia’s most iconic transport hubs. The project, spearheaded by the Circular Quay Consortium and in partnership with Transport for New South Wales, aims to revitalize the Circular Quay Precinct, providing a modern and sustainable cultural experience for residents and visitors, alike.
Located between Sydney’s Opera House and Harbour Bridge, Circular Quay, also known as “Warrane,” is predicted to host 20 million visitors and 86 million public and active transport trips annually by 2041.
Its renewal will create a modern and accessible, high-capacity transport interchange with new ferry wharves and an upgraded station.
The project team includes BESIX Watpac, which alongside Capella Capital and Lendlease Construction, forms the Circular Quay Consortium. The CQC is partnered with the New South Wales Government, First Nations advisors and key stakeholders to transform Circular Quay into a world-class destination.
The team will see the existing six wharves demolished and replaced with accessible pontoons, as well as design the revamp of the western and southern promenades — including widening them to 20 meters to provide more seating, shade and space for passengers and visitors.
The planning and design development activities undertaken during this phase will pave the way for subsequent stages.
