NASCAR is partnering with Choate Construction Company to bring the National Association’s production operations to Concord, North Carolina. To commemorate the project’s commencement, NASCAR hosted a groundbreaking ceremony in August and a post-event celebration at Twenty-Six Acres Brewing Company.
Relocating from Charlotte to the land adjacent to the NASCAR R&D Center, NASCAR’s 58,000-square-foot production facility will provide space for its continued expansion. The Design-Build project will be made of tilt-up concrete and structural steel, with a complete build-out of the interior to house NASCAR’s television and radio production studios, as well as a broadcast equipment room, mechanical system and chemical fire suppression systems.
For this Design-Build project, Choate teamed up with Redline Design Group, ACRO Development Services, PLLC, Barrett Woodyard and Associates Inc. and Bennett & Pless Inc. to guide NASCAR’s design and planning decisions, while taking into consideration market costs and schedule to keep the project moving forward.
Due to the level of complexity involved in constructing a broadcasting center, several consultants — such as acoustic engineers and technology providers — were involved during the design phase to ensure all building systems meet the criteria required.
Building Information Modeling was deployed on this project to aid in evaluating site analysis, and to ensure design and construction efficiency for the building structure and mechanical systems.
