According to research, about 34,000 construction superintendent positions across the U.S. remain unfilled. The National Center for Construction Education and Research is exploring this and has recently published the article “Contributing Factors to the Superintendent Shortage.”
Although it is not unexpected to learn that the pool of experienced superintendents is limited, the article states, concerning trends show a widening gap between supply and demand for these roles and point to a growing need for a systematic solution to developing a reliable pipeline of superintendents and other field leaders.
The article provides insights into current and near-term challenges, including:
- Current: High Demand & Low Supply
- Future: Increasing Demand & Decreasing Supply
- Developing Field Leaders from Within
