STRABAG Tapped to Build 3 Slovenian Projects Worth €98.3 Million

The Slovenian subsidiary of STRABAG SE has added three new building construction and civil engineering projects to its order books.

The company won a public tender for a new construction project for the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine in the capital city of Ljubljana. The new university complex with a contract value of €46.4 million will consist of two interconnected building sections to replace the outdated faculty buildings. A five-story wing of the building will house lecture halls and institute facilities, while the adjacent three-story section will house the veterinary clinics. The design, by architectural firm arhitektura mj, also includes the greening of the roof areas. The plans foresee designating the entire roof of the lower building section as a multifunctional green area. Construction commenced in July and should be finalized by the end of 2025. Once completed, the facility will provide around 24,000 square meters of space for research, teaching and clinical treatment in line with international standards.

STRABAG has also been selected as the contractor for Warehouse No. 54 at Slovenia’s most important seaport in Koper. The project involves the construction of a warehouse for the storage and handling of steel coils. The €35.9-million contract also includes the supply and installation of equipment and the warehouse management information system. A photovoltaic array on the roof and a transformer station are also planned to ensure a sustainable power supply. The nearly 21-meter-high warehouse will be built on 1,730 concrete piles with a length of 31 meters. It has been designed in a two-aisle layout, will be equipped with several bridge cranes and will contain no partition walls to simplify logistics, all of which represent a particular structural challenge. At 230 meters long and 61.5 meters wide, the building covers a gross floor area of around 14,000 square meters. Construction began in July and is scheduled for completion in the first quarter of 2026.

In addition, the planned residential development to be built at the intersection of Litijska and Pesarska streets in eastern Ljubljana comprises 97 nonprofit rental units, communal areas and restaurants on the ground floor, two units for senior citizen shared housing and a two-story underground car park with 188 spaces. The project in the suburban neighborhood of Štepanja Vas is being built turnkey by STRABAG as general contractor for the city of Ljubljana. It consists of three four-story buildings, two of which are grouped in an L-shape around a landscaped courtyard with a children’s playground. The family friendly ensemble is complemented by a second playground at the third building, 380 partly covered bicycle parking spaces, greened roof surfaces and generous tree cover. The €16-million contract with an estimated construction time of around 20 months is due to start in September.
