McLaren Construction Midlands and North has marked a significant milestone on the Birmingham England Temple project for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, with steelwork progressing well across the scheme and the Temple spire successfully installed.
Steel will be incorporated across two buildings, and steel erection is now underway on the main Temple building. Rising to 38 meters from ground level, the spire is a defining architectural feature and will become a prominent addition to Birmingham’s skyline.
Work on the ancillary building is also progressing with the commencement of its steel installation. This building will accommodate office space and living accommodation, complementing the Temple and wider site layout.
The project has also seen important progress on the Temple’s bespoke stonework. The first stone was successfully dry laid last fall, following extensive collaboration between the general contractor, client and a specialist supplier. The process included a visit to select the stone and finalize colors, ensuring the finished façade aligns with the high standards and global consistency expected of the Temples.
Despite periods of adverse weather impacting certain activities, including planned tarmac works, the team has proactively managed these challenges and incorporated adjustments to maintain overall progress.
Alongside the construction of the Temple and ancillary accommodation, McLaren Construction has been instructed to commence stage 3 design of the existing meeting house structure, and is overseeing the extensive landscaping works, including the planting of mature trees to enhance the surrounding environment.
The Birmingham England Temple is being delivered to the highest standards, with a strong focus on craftsmanship, sustainability and careful coordination within its residential setting. The project remains on track to provide a landmark facility that will serve The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and the wider community for generations to come.
