The Rosendin Foundation Inspires Future Builders with Nationwide Construction Camp
The Rosendin Foundation, the charitable arm of Rosendin, is addressing the nationwide construction workforce shortage with a free construction camp designed to ignite a passion for building and craftsmanship among young students. The camp allows middle schoolers to explore their interest in the skilled trades through hands-on activities such as soldering and lamp building. The Design-Build Institute of America announced the 2024 National Design-Build Project/Team Award winners. Sixty-three projects from across the U.S. –– and one in Antarctica –– were submitted for consideration across 10 categories. Submissions were evaluated by a panel of industry experts. New Data Bulletin Examines Mental Health Trends Among Construction Workers
Construction workers have the highest overdose death rate and the second highest suicide death rate of any U.S. industry. Those two issues are key elements of the September 2024 edition of CPWR’s Data Bulletin, “Mental Health Trends in the Construction Industry,” which also examines topics such as anxiety, depression, serious psychological distress, seeing a mental health professional and medication use. In 2021, 15.4% of construction workers reported, based on symptoms or medication, having anxiety or depression, and in 2022, there were 17,100 overdose and 5,200 suicide deaths among those usually employed in the construction industry.
NCCER Releases Recommendations to Support Industry Tradeswomen
The National Center for Construction Education and Research recently published a follow up to its research released in 2023, In Her Own Words: Improving Project Outcomes. As a follow up, NCCER compiled the recommendations made by 176 tradeswomen in the field to assist contractors with recruiting and retaining women in the construction industry.
