WASHINGTON, D.C. – Assistant Secretary of Labor for Occupational Safety and Health Dr. David Michaels has selected Dean McKenzie as the new director of the agency’s directorate of construction. McKenzie served as director of OSHA’s Office of Construction Services from 2012-13, then became the deputy director in 2013, and has been the acting director since January of this year. Construction Employment Declines Amidst Qualified Worker Shortages

Construction employment slipped from July to August for the fourth time in five months, but year-over-year job gains and recently released spending data suggest the recent weakness is due to firms having a hard time finding workers rather than lack of demand, according to an analysis by the Associated General Contractors of America. Hensel Phelps has completed the construction of four new residence halls for Quantum Equity One LLC at Bethune-Cookman University in Daytona Beach, Florida. The four brand-new residence halls provide an additional 1,204 beds for students. The design and construction of this project was a collaborative effort between Hensel Phelps’ Development Group and Construction Group.
