WASHINGTON, D.C. — The green building sector is outpacing overall construction growth in the U.S. and will account for more than 2.3 million American jobs this year, according to a new U.S. Green Building Council study from Booz Allen Hamilton. The 2015 Green Building Economic Impact Study finds the green building industry contributes more than $134.3 billion in labor income to working Americans. Korte Begins Work on $46.3M Design-Build Contract for Gateway Inns & Suites
The Korte Company will begin construction of a new seven-story, 200-guest room Navy Gateway Inns & Suites hotel at Naval Station Newport in Rhode Island. The 103,831-square-foot project also includes the construction of a parking area on the adjacent Lawrence Field, designed for 225 vehicles. When completed in April of 2017, the facility will be the central lodging facility for Naval Station Newport, as well as the main check-in point for all base lodging. Excavation Complete on The Wharf Project
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Less than a year after breaking ground on the first phase of The Wharf, Clark Construction has completed excavation of the 19-acre site. Washington, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser, Delegate Eleanor Holmes Norton and Councilman Charles Allen joined project stakeholders onsite for a ‘bottoming out’ ceremony to mark the occasion. The project team carefully planned the site excavation, building a 2,000-foot-long bulkhead parallel to the Potomac River’s edge to keep out flowing water before removing more than 300,000 cubic yards of dirt away from the shoreline to make way for the mega mixed-use project. Nonresidential Construction Spending Continues to Grow Through Mid-Summer
Nonresidential construction spending expanded 0.5 percent in July and is up 12.7 percent on a year-over-year basis, according to a Sept. 1 release by the U.S. Census Bureau. This represents the strongest year-over-year percentage growth in spending since April 2008. On a seasonally adjusted, annualized basis, nonresidential construction spending totaled $696.1 billion in July, which is the best reading since March 2009.
