Turner Building Cost Index Shows Increase Driven by Growth in Larger, Urban Market
NEW YORK, N.Y. — Turner Construction Company announced that the Second Quarter 2013 Turner Building Cost Index — which measures costs in the non-residential building construction market in the United States — has increased to a value of 859. This reflects a 1.18 percent increase from the First Quarter 2013 and 4 percent yearly increase from the Second Quarter 2012. “Larger urban markets appear to be expanding more rapidly than other regions. Skanska Adds Mac McCandlish as Senior Superintendent
NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Skanska USA recently announced that it has hired Terry “Mac” McCandlish as a senior superintendent based in the firm’s Nashville office. McCandlish brings more than 30 years of experience in construction to this position, with the majority of his experience for the last 22 years focused on healthcare construction. He previously worked in Skanska’s South Florida office as a senior superintendent on the Lynn Cancer Institute project in Boca Raton, Fla. He also led projects at Beaumont Hospital and Genesys Health Care Hospital in Michigan, and Baptist Health in South Florida.
Construction Materials Prices Down 0.1% in April, ABC Says
National construction materials prices slipped 0.1 percent in April, according to the May 15 producer price report by the U.S. Department of Labor. Year over year, construction materials prices are up just 0.4 percent. Nonresidential construction materials prices decreased 0.1 percent for the month and are down 0.4 percent over the last 12 months. Nonferrous wire and cable prices dropped 3.5 percent for the month and are down 4.2 percent on a year-over-year basis.
