US Department of Labor seeks Nominees for Advisory Committee on Construction Safety and Health

The U.S. Department of Labor is seeking nominations for the Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s Advisory Committee for Construction Safety and Health. The secretary will select 14 members representing the interests of employers, employees, state safety and health agencies and the public to create a broad-based, balanced and diverse committee. The remaining representative is designated by the secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services. Members generally serve a two-year term and can be appointed to successive terms. McCarthy Building Companies Celebrates Completion, Topping Out of Vantage Data Centers in Goodyear, Arizona

General contractor McCarthy Building Companies recently completed the fully commissioned AZ13 building for Vantage Data Centers, a provider of hyperscale data center campuses. AZ13 is the third of five planned data centers at Vantage’s AZ1 campus in Goodyear to be constructed and delivered by McCarthy’s Mission Critical team. The team is simultaneously celebrating the topping out of AZ14 on the same campus, which is expected to complete in summer 2026. Balfour Beatty Selected for Bassett High School Stormwater Capture Project

Balfour Beatty’s Civils operations has been selected to deliver the approximately $60 million Bassett High School Stormwater Capture project in La Puente, California. In partnership with Los Angeles County Department of Public Works and Bassett Unified School District the project team will construct an underground infiltration gallery at Bassett High School to improve water quality of waterways in La Puente, West Covina, Baldwin Park and City of Industry, as well as enhance green spaces on site for public use. Groundbreaking Held for Lake County Sheriff’s Office

The Design-Build team of Gilbane Building Company, K2M and Lakeland, The Construction Group broke ground on the new Lake County Sheriff’s Office in Painesville, Ohio. The correctional facility, located across the street from the county’s current jail, will increase the capacity from 355 to 504 beds over three and a half floors and 250,000 square feet. It is designed to enhance the criminal justice system with innovations in inmate supervision, mental health treatment, drug and alcohol rehabilitation, medical care and post-release supervision through intensive probation. The project is scheduled to open in the summer of 2027.

New Study Examines Construction Worker Safety, Mental Health

Research findings indicate construction contractors continue to make progress responding to issues affecting worker safety and health, such as heat and mental health, but many areas for improvement remain. The new study, Safety Management in the Construction Industry 2023 SmartMarket Report, examines occupational safety and health challenges across the industry and shines a light where more effort is needed.
