The American Iron and Steel Institute has been reaccredited by the American National Standards Institute under its revised operating procedures for documenting consensus on AISI-sponsored American National Standards. The revised procedures replace the previous version approved June 13, 2017. AISI serves as Secretariat for two standards-developing committees: 1) the Committee on Specifications, which addresses the broad range of cold-formed steel structural member behavior and design for building construction, and 2) the Committee on Framing Standards, which focuses on cold-formed steel light-frame construction. The American Society of Concrete Contractors published its 46th Position Statement, “Water-Cementitious Material Ratio for Concrete to Receive a Trowel Finish.” ASCC position statements clarify the concrete contractors’ point of view for architects, engineers, owners and others. Position statement 46 explains that the ACI 318-19 Building Code requires a maximum water-cementitious material ratio (w/cm) in accordance with the severity of the anticipated exposure of members, and varies from N/A to 0.55, 0.50, 0.45 and 0.40. The National Association of Women in Construction Philadelphia Foundation and NEST Nurtures will host the 13th annual MyWIC camp. It will bring real-world experiences and mentorship to girls in the Philadelphia, Pennsylvania area this summer. The free in-person construction camp for girls will provide education about the opportunities that exist in the construction industry, regardless of gender. The American Society of Concrete Contractors published its 45th position statement, “Managing Concrete Projects: Concrete/Steel Price and Delivery Volatility Risks.” ASCC position statements clarify the concrete contractors’ point of view for architects, engineers, owners and others. Position statement 45 explains that the recent unpredictable market fluctuation and supply shortages for materials are beyond the contractor’s control, making it difficult to maintain the costs and schedules anticipated at bid time.
