The construction industry added 28,000 jobs on net in November, according to an Associated Builders and Contractors’ analysis of data released by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. On a year-over-year basis, industry employment has expanded by 58,000 jobs, an increase of 0.7%. Nonresidential construction employment increased by 28,800 positions, with gains in all three subcategories. Nonresidential specialty trade added 18,700 jobs, while nonresidential building and heavy and civil engineering added 5,100 and 5,000 jobs, respectively. Ribbon Cutting Held for Centra Langhorne Medical Center
A ribbon cutting of Centra Langhorne Medical Center was held Dec. 3 in Lynchburg, Virginia. The five-story, 126,813-square-foot medical office building features pre-surgery, imaging, outpatient rehabilitation, endocrinology, brain and spine, urology, pulmonology and pain management services. The facility centralizes multiple specialists and increases access to healthcare for the Lynchburg community. Additionally, Centra partnered with the city of Lynchburg to develop an added entry with parking to Blackwater Creek Trail as part of the new property. Robins & Morton served as the general contractor. Haskell was the architect.
MCA Announces 2026 Board
The Metal Construction Association announced its new officers for 2026. Elected by MCA members, the board will be led by Lee Ann Slattery of ATAS International, the organization’s first female chair. Swinerton Completes High School Renovation Project in Charlotte Area
Swinerton Builders announced the completion of a renovation project at Catawba Ridge High School that establishes a cosmetology training facility for in-district high school students. The 3,345-square-foot multipurpose environment provides the opportunity for hands-on experiential learning. Started last spring, the renovation was complete in time for the 2025-26 scholastic year. The cosmetology renovation converted four existing classrooms into a specialized training environment, complete with a retail salon space. The storefront features 10 dual-sided, haircutting stations, eight hair-drying areas, four shampoo stations, two facial tables, four pedicure chairs, four manicure tables, changing rooms and a dispensary for chemicals and products. Dodge Momentum Index Decreases 1% in November
The Dodge Momentum Index, issued by Dodge Construction Network, decreased 1.1% in November to 276.8 (2000=100) from the downwardly revised October reading of 280.0. Over the month, commercial planning ticked down 0.1% and institutional planning declined by 3.4%. Year-to-date, the DMI is up 36% from the average reading over the same period in 2024. On the commercial side, activity slowed down for warehouses and hotels, while planning momentum was sustained for data centers, traditional office buildings and retail stores.
