Kenyon Company and Gresham Smith have completed a new multispecialty surgery center, home to Jax Spine & Pain Centers and UF Health Jacksonville, under the direction of UF Jacksonville Physicians, Inc. in Florida. One of the largest freestanding multispecialty surgery centers in the region, the 54,000-square-foot facility was designed and constructed to offer specialized healthcare services, outpatient surgeries, interventional spine procedures and pain management. DBK delivered this facility using its design-build approach and partnered with Gresham Smith, the architect and interior designer, and ETM, the civil engineer. Construction Employment Increases In 42 States, D.C. From May 2022 to May 2023
Construction employment increased in 42 states and the District of Columbia in May from a year earlier, while only 24 states added construction jobs from April to May, according to a new analysis of federal employment data released by the Associated General Contractors of America. Association officials said firms are struggling to find new workers amid a lack of funding for construction education programs, keeping monthly employment gains lower in many parts of the country. McCarthy Completes Largest Public Port Project on Texas Coast
McCarthy has completed construction of Berth 8 at Port Freeport, Texas. Part of the Velasco Terminal, Berth 8 features over 925 feet of berth and an associated roll-on/roll-off dock extension. The expansion represents the single largest project built by a public port on the Texas Gulf Coast. McCarthy began construction in 2020 and achieved substantial completion in May 2023. Monthly Construction Input Prices Decrease, Says ABC
Construction input prices fell .6% in May compared to the previous month, according to an Associated Builders and Contractors analysis of the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics’ Producer Price Index data. Nonresidential construction input prices declined .5% for the month. Overall construction input prices are 3.7% lower than a year ago. Nonresidential construction input prices are 3.4% lower. Prices declined in all three energy subcategories. Crude petroleum prices were down 10.2% in May, while unprocessed energy materials were down 7.8%.
