The American Society of Concrete Contractors published its 45th position statement, “Managing Concrete Projects: Concrete/Steel Price and Delivery Volatility Risks.” ASCC position statements clarify the concrete contractors’ point of view for architects, engineers, owners and others. Position statement 45 explains that the recent unpredictable market fluctuation and supply shortages for materials are beyond the contractor’s control, making it difficult to maintain the costs and schedules anticipated at bid time. The position statement calls for early involvement in project design for the concrete contractor and its suppliers to best manage the material supply chain. Construction Input Prices Are Up 21% From a Year Ago, Says ABC
Construction input prices rose 2.3% in May compared to the previous month, according to an Associated Builders and Contractors’ analysis of U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics Producer Price Index data. Nonresidential construction input prices also increased 2.3% for the month. Construction input prices are up 21.4% from a year ago, while nonresidential construction input prices are 21.9% higher. Input prices rose in 10 of 11 subcategories in May. The largest price increases were in natural gas (+39.7%) and unprocessed energy materials (+16.3%).
Framing Complete for 1M-Square-Foot Development in Missouri
McCarthy Building Companies completed the framing of Forsyth Pointe, a nearly 1-million-square-foot mixed use development occupying an entire square city block in Clayton, Missouri. The development by US Capital Development features two steel-framed, all glass Class A office towers with street-level retail space offering spectacular views of the adjacent 30-acre Shaw Park.
