Extreme price increases continued in July for a wide range of goods and services used in construction, according to an analysis by the Associated General Contractors of America of government data. Contractors Unite to Create Inaugural ‘Construction Inclusion Week’ Oct. 18-22
In 2020, six general contractors created a consortium, Time for Change, with a single purpose: to identify ways to advance diversity, equity and inclusion in the construction industry. The shared effort by Gilbane Building Company, DPR Construction, Turner Construction Company, Mortenson, McCarthy Building Companies and Clark Construction Group resulted in organizing an industry-wide Construction Inclusion Week which will be held Oct. 18-22. University of Georgia Celebrates Topping Out Ceremonies
Topping out ceremonies were recently celebrated for two projects at the University of Georgia – The Interdisciplinary Science Technology Engineering and Math Research Laboratory, which is a 100,000-square-foot interdisciplinary graduate research facility, and a 120,000-square-foot student residence hall. Turner Construction Company served as general contractor on the project. The i-STEM Research Building will include laboratories, support spaces, offices and study areas. The residence hall will provide housing for 525 people. Both projects are scheduled to be complete in the fall of 2022.

This three-day hybrid (in-person + digital) expo begins Sept. 24 in Denver, Colorado and continues online Sept. 27-28. U.S. Economy Expands in Q2, Investment in Structures Contracts, Says ABC
The U.S. economy expanded at a 6.5% annualized rate in the second quarter of 2021, pushing overall gross domestic product above pre-pandemic levels. Investment in nonresidential structures, however, declined 7% for the quarter and has now contracted in six of the past seven quarters, according to an analysis by Associated Builders and Contractors of data released by the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis.
