The Modular Mobilization Coalition recently delivered the first multifamily modular construction project in the Petworth area of Washington, D.C. The Petworth Modo project consists of 44 modular units that will be stacked into a five-story building containing 16 apartments. The building is anticipated to be move-in ready by the end of 2020. The modular project is expected to be completed in 10 months compared to a 12-16-month timeline using traditional site-built construction methods. Two-Thirds of Metros Shed Construction Jobs from August 2019 to August 2020, AGC Urges Congress to Pass COVID Relief
Construction employment decreased in 241, or 67%, out of 358 metro areas between August 2019 and last month, according to an analysis of new government data released by the Associated General Contractors of America. Association officials urged Congress to pass new coronavirus relief measures before leaving town. “Although residential construction is picking up in many areas, public and nonresidential construction are shrinking,” said Ken Simonson, the association’s chief economist. “Project cancellations are spreading, and fewer new projects are starting up. 2021 FGIA Virtual Annual Conference Announced
The Fenestration and Glazing Industry Alliance (will hold its 2021 Annual Conference virtually due to the continued health concerns around the spread of COVID-19. This event, previously scheduled to be held Florida, will be hosted on Zoom for the convenience of participants. Boyd Worsham Appointed NCCER President, CEO
NCCER’s board of trustees has named its president, Boyd Worsham, as president and CEO, effective September 2020. NCCER has been implementing a formal succession plan over the last two years to fill the leadership position Don Whyte held since 2003. In 2018, Worsham, formally of The Haskell Company, was identified as the successor to lead NCCER into the future while Don Whyte remained on board as CEO to provide guidance and support during this transition. ABC Receives Pledge to America’s Workers Presidential Award
Associated Builders and Contractors has received the Pledge to America’s Workers Presidential Award, which was presented last month at a White House event. Among nine recipients, ABC was selected based on its achievements in workforce education and fulfilling its 2018 pledge to recruit and upskill at least 500,000 workers by 2023. In 2019 alone, ABC members invested $1.5 billion to provide more than 1.1 million course attendees with craft, leadership and safety education to build a construction workforce that is safe, skilled and productive.
