NCCER’s board of trustees has named its president, Boyd Worsham, as president and CEO, effective September 2020. NCCER has been implementing a formal succession plan over the last two years to fill the leadership position Don Whyte held since 2003. In 2018, Worsham, formally of The Haskell Company, was identified as the successor to lead NCCER into the future while Don Whyte remained on board as CEO to provide guidance and support during this transition. ABC Receives Pledge to America’s Workers Presidential Award

Associated Builders and Contractors has received the Pledge to America’s Workers Presidential Award, which was presented last month at a White House event. Among nine recipients, ABC was selected based on its achievements in workforce education and fulfilling its 2018 pledge to recruit and upskill at least 500,000 workers by 2023. In 2019 alone, ABC members invested $1.5 billion to provide more than 1.1 million course attendees with craft, leadership and safety education to build a construction workforce that is safe, skilled and productive. Lakeshore Foundation Expansion Project Revitalizes 19-Year-Old Building, Adds Contemplative Garden + Walking Trails

Construction is complete on a $17.5-million expansion initiative at the Lakeshore Foundation Master Campus in Homewood, Alabama near Birmingham. Hoar Construction served as general contractor on the project. The Lakeshore Foundation is a non-profit organization providing opportunities for people with disabilities in Alabama and across the country to lead healthy, independent lives through physical activity, nutrition, research, advocacy and more. Lakeshore also serves as a training site for the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic teams, with on-campus housing to accommodate athletes. Marcum Construction Index Shows Industry Holding Steady in COVID-19 Economy

The Marcum Commercial Construction Index for the second quarter of 2020 reports the industry is holding relatively well in the face of the COVID-19-driven recession. Construction employment has rebounded since plummeting in March and April, and the industry’s unemployment rate stands at 8.9%, below the 10.2% rate observed across all industries. The index is produced by Marcum’s National Construction Services group. “The data indicate that construction has recovered faster than any other major economic segment.
