A new report released today by Dodge Data & Analytics, in collaboration with construction management software provider Viewpoint, a Trimble company, reveals a sea change in the way project data is gathered and analyzed across the construction industry—change that is poised to improve key project outcomes according to construction managers, specialty trade contractors and design/build firms surveyed. Construction Jobs Increase by 21K in June, 224K during Past Year as Sector Unemployment Rate Decreases to 4%
Construction employment increased by 21,000 jobs in June and by 224,000, or 3.2%, over the past 12 months, while the number of unemployed jobseekers with construction experience fell, according to an analysis of new government data by the Associated General Contractors of America. Nonresidential Construction Spending Slips Modestly in May, Says ABC
According to a recent Associated Builders and Contractors analysis of U.S. Census Bureau data, national nonresidential construction spending declined 0.9% in May, totaling $788.5 billion on a seasonally adjusted annualized basis and a 4.4% increase compared to the same time last year. While total public and private nonresidential spending declined 0.9% since April, public spending was up 11.2% and private spending was down 0.1% year over year. Among the 16 nonresidential construction spending categories tracked by the Census Bureau, five experienced increases in monthly spending, including transportation (4%), communication (1.3%) and public safety (1.2%). Joint Venture Completes Arizona State Route 260 Improvements
Sundt Construction, Inc. and joint-venture partner Vastco recently completed the State Route 260 widening improvements between Cottonwood and Camp Verde west of Interstate 17 in Arizona. The project expanded eight miles of two-lane road into a four-lane divided highway. It also includes a new bridge and a multi-modal pathway from Cherry Creek Road to Interstate 17, as well as seven roundabouts. The full-access roundabout intersections were constructed at Thousand Trails Road, Coury Drive, Cherry Creek Road, Horseshoe Bend Drive, Wilshire Drive and two new locations to accommodate projected future traffic demands in the Verde Valley. MYCON’s participation in the U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s sixth annual National Safety Stand-Down week was a huge success, according to the firm’s Senior Vice President Justin Jeffus, CDP, LEED AP. OSHA’s Safety Stand-Down is a voluntary event that encourages employers to stop work, or stand-down, and talk directly with workers about safety and how to prevent workplace accidents and fatalities.
