National nonresidential construction spending decreased 0.1% in June, according to an Associated Builders and Contractors’ analysis of data published by the U.S. Census Bureau. On a seasonally adjusted annualized basis, nonresidential spending totaled $1.241 trillion. Spending was down on a monthly basis in 9 of the 16 nonresidential subcategories. Women in Timber Event Raises Money to Support Girls Build in Portland
The 2025 International Mass Timber Conference held in Portland, Oregon, March 25–27, hosted the third annual Women in Timber Power Hour with a record attendance of over 500. Women in Timber is a free event that’s produced through the generosity of the sponsors who support it each year. A portion of the funds raised from the event are donated to a like-minded organization to continue to champion women in the industry. Dodge Construction Network: Construction Starts Grew 16% in June
Total construction starts were up 16% in June to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of $1.33 trillion, according to Dodge Construction Network. Nonresidential building starts improved by 39%, residential starts fell 1%, and nonbuilding starts grew 2% over the month. On a year-to-date basis through June, total construction starts were up 1% from last year. Nonresidential starts were up 6%, residential starts were down 5% and nonbuilding starts were 1% higher over the same period. Construction Hiring Remains Subdued in June
The construction industry had 246,000 job openings on the last day of June, according to an Associated Builders and Contractors analysis of data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics’ Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey. JOLTS defines a job opening as any unfilled position for which an employer is actively recruiting.
