WASHINGTON, D.C.— National construction employment declined by 3,000 net jobs on a seasonally adjusted basis in December, according to analysis of U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics data recently released by the Associated Builders and Contractors. The industry added 102,000 net new jobs on a year-over-year basis, the smallest increase in more than four years. Of the five subsectors, only residential specialty trade contractors added jobs in December (11,700 net new jobs). Construction employment slipped by 3,000 jobs in December, while average hourly earnings accelerated, according to an analysis of new government data by the Associated General Contractors of America. Turner’s Fourth Quarter Building Cost Index Reflects Strong Market Conditions
NEW YORK, N.Y. – Turner Construction Company’s Fourth Quarter 2016 Turner Building Cost Index—which measures costs in the non-residential building construction market in the United States—has increased to a value of 1006. This represents a 1.11 percent quarterly increase from the Third Quarter 2016 and a 4.90 percent yearly increase from the Fourth Quarter 2015. Suffolk Selected as Construction Manager for GE’s New Boston HQ
BOSTON, Mass. – Suffolk Construction Company has been selected by GE as construction manager for the development of it new global headquarters in Boston, Massachusetts. Suffolk will provide pre-construction services related to the development of the new 12-story building on the campus. In this first phase, Suffolk will work closely with the project architect, Gensler, on refining and completing the design. In addition, Suffolk will develop the project timing, sequencing, logistics and cost. Once complete, construction of the new 295,000-square-foot building will begin. ATLANTA, Ga. – Brasfield & Gorrie recently celebrated a significant milestone in the construction of the new Omni Hotel at The Battery Atlanta in the mixed-used development adjacent to SunTrust Park in Cobb County, Georgia.
