According to an Associated Builders and Contractors’ analysis of the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics’ 2024 Union Members Summary released, a record low 10.3% of the U.S. construction industry belongs to a union, a decrease from the prior historic low of 10.7% in 2023. BLS reports that 7,978,000 construction industry workers were not members of a union in 2024, a 12,000-person increase from 7,966,000 workers in 2023, while union membership decreased by 38,000 to 916,000. The National Center for Construction Education and Research’s annual I BUILT THIS! Contest is returning Feb. 1-March 14. CMAA Expands Spanish-Language Content Library
The Construction Management Association of America is in the process of publishing Spanish translations for 11 of its publications, continuing an effort to make industry resources accessible to an even larger number of program and construction management professionals. These translations, which will be released in phases through spring 2026, mark the first time CMAA’s Construction Management Guidelines have been available in a language other than English. McCarthy Building Companies Reaches Milestone with Planetarium Project
McCarthy Building Companies celebrated a project milestone with the placement of the dome for the International Dark Sky Discovery Center. The project, located in Fountain Hills, Arizona, will feature the Craig and Ruth Gimbel Hyperspace Planetarium, and is expected to be complete in summer 2025. The domed theater will educate visitors with programs about astronomy, the night sky and other STEM education subjects. Planetarium programming may also include topics such as biodiversity, anatomy, aviation and more. ACPA Announces Safety Training for Contractors
The American Concrete Pumping Association has announced its Coworker Safety Training program, scheduled to launch spring 2025.
