DPR Construction has welcomed 38 participants to its Build Up High School Intern Program, the largest cohort since the program began in 2017 and a 42% increase in participation compared to 2023. The program gives eligible high school juniors and seniors the opportunity to spend their summers working side by side with skilled project teams on major construction projects. Participants get the same experience as college-aged interns, learning about managing multi-million-dollar projects, the technology powering construction planning, schedule and design while also learning about the variety of roles and career paths in construction. AIA/Deltek Releases Latest Architecture Billings Index

Business conditions remain soft at architecture firms in June with the AIA/Deltek Architecture Billings Index reporting a score of 46.4. Any score below 50 indicates that billings decline, although somewhat fewer firms reported a decline in billings in June than in May. Indicators of future work remained generally soft as well: Only slightly more than half of the responding firms reported an increase in inquiries into new work. Firms reported a third consecutive month of decline in value of newly signed design contracts. Gilbane Building Company and joint venture partner Mosites Construction Company gathered with Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to celebrate the topping off ceremony for the new Robotics Innovation Center at Hazelwood Green and the success of the project thus far. The Richard King Mellon Foundation, dedicated to advancing prosperity in Southwestern Pennsylvania, announced a $150 million grant to CMU in 2021, the single largest grant since its inception in 1947. $45 million of this grant supports the construction of the RIC at Hazelwood Green, an area that was formerly a riverside steel mill. The Jerry Smith Community Wellness Center Opens in Nevada

Neenan Archistruction and Northern Nevada HOPES celebrated the grand opening of The Jerry Smith Community Wellness Center in Reno, Nevada. The Jerry Smith Community Wellness Center provides services including primary medical care, behavioral health care, case management, resource navigation, support groups, substance use treatment, an onsite pharmacy and transportation. The clinic includes a first-floor walk-in clinic, designed to reduce emergency service calls by providing residents an alternative to ambulance-based medical care. The clinic was designed and built during HOPES’ active capital campaign, and the construction site became center state during all on-site donor tours.
