Associated Builders and Contractors reported that its Construction Backlog Indicator declined to 8.7 months in March, according to an ABC member survey conducted March 20-April 3. New University of Arizona Applied Research Building Furthers Space Research

The University of Arizona marked the completion of construction and opening of the $85-million Applied Research Building in Tucson, Arizona. With the progressive design-build partnership between integrated design firm SmithGroup and general contractor McCarthy Building Companies, Inc., the 89,000-square-foot ARB will house all research spaces related to the fabrication and testing of satellites in one integrated facility. Construction Begins on Phase IID of Westhaven Park in Chicago

McShane Construction Company and joint venture partner, Ashlaur Construction, were selected by Brinshore Development and The Michaels Organization to build Phase IID of Westhaven Park in Chicago, Illinois. The 12-story development will integrate 96 mixed-income apartment units with ground-floor retail space. The precast concrete building will incorporate a total of 121,800 square feet. Three retail spaces will occupy the ground floor with residential units on floors two through 12. In Observance of National Safe Digging Month, CGA Urges Professional Excavators to Contact 811 Before Every Dig

In observance of April as National Safe Digging Month, Common Ground Alliance reminds professional excavators, landscapers, contractors and anyone else who breaks ground to contact 811 before they dig. According to CGA’s annual Damage Information Reporting Tool Report, more than half of annual reported damages (55.3%) were caused by professional contractors. The most common root cause of these damages was “no notification made to the 811 center,” meaning the damages could have been avoided if excavators contacted 811 to have utility lines marked prior to breaking ground.
