Bouygues Bâtiment International to Build Africa’s Abomey-Calavi University Hospital

The Republic of Benin’s Ministry of Health has signed a contract with a consortium led by Bouygues Bâtiment International for the development and construction of the university hospital in Abomey-Calavi, Africa’s second largest city.

Representing a total amount of €175 million, this project of more than 40,000 square meters on two levels will have a capacity of 434 beds and places. It will include six large hospitalization units. The technical platform will include three-day hospitals, an A&E unit, a laboratory, medical imaging, radiotherapy and nine operating theaters. The project will also include teaching areas, staff accommodation, a mortuary and medical, catering and technical logistics units. The new hospital will be handed over in 2023, with the goal of Edge environmental certification.

The design of this new university hospital, intended to become the benchmark hospital in Benin, was carried out in a consortium with the French architecture firm Michel Beauvais Associés, based on a program carried out by the Paris Public Hospital Authority and the design offices of Egis Bâtiments International, Claire Planson and Oasiis. As part of its healthcare offer incorporating finance, design and construction, the company provided the finance solution structured by Société Générale Financement Export and guaranteed by Bpifrance Assurance Export.
